SEASIDE COVE, FL — In a shocking revelation that has rocked the tourism industry, visiting accountant Derek Pemberton has discovered that his favorite beach vacation spot continues to exist and function even when he’s not there, with local residents reportedly carrying on with their daily lives throughout the entire calendar year.

Pemberton, 34, made the startling discovery during an unexpected off-season visit to Seaside Cove, where he was amazed to find grocery stores open, children attending school, and locals engaging in routine activities like buying coffee and walking their dogs. “I always assumed the whole place just kind of… powered down when tourist season ended,” said Pemberton, visibly shaken by his findings. “Like, I thought maybe everyone went into some sort of seasonal hibernation until spring break.”

The revelation came as a particular shock when Pemberton encountered Maria Santos, a restaurant owner he had seen serving tourists for three consecutive summers. “I was genuinely surprised to learn she has a mortgage, sends her kids to soccer practice, and doesn’t just materialize behind the bar when I need a piña colada,” Pemberton explained.

“We’ve been trying to tell tourists this for years,” said Santos, who confirmed she has never once entered a state of suspended animation between Labor Day and Memorial Day. “But they always seem surprised when they find out we have grocery stores, libraries, and regular human problems like everyone else.” Local officials are now considering adding a disclaimer to tourism brochures clarifying that the destination operates as a functional community 365 days a year.
