Friends and family of Dale Kowalczyk, 34, report that the affable insurance adjuster they once knew has been entirely supplanted by the recycled talking points of actor-turned-podcast-host Brent Silvano, whose twice-weekly show ‘Unfiltered With Brent’ Kowalczyk has listened to ‘religiously’ for the past eight months.
“He used to have opinions about, like, sports and the weather,” said Kowalczyk’s wife, Renee, who says she can now predict exactly what her husband will say at dinner based solely on that morning’s episode drop time. “Now he just says ‘society has lost its way’ every time someone cuts him off in traffic. I asked him what that even means and he just stared at me like I’d asked him to solve a math problem.”
Coworkers say Kowalczyk has taken to ending meetings with Silvano’s catchphrase, ‘at the end of the day, we’re all just trying to find our truth,’ despite the meetings being about quarterly claims reports. His brother Mike noted that Kowalczyk recently spent $340 on a cold plunge tub after Silvano spoke for eleven minutes about ‘reclaiming his nervous system,’ a phrase Mike says Dale now uses to explain why he’s late to everything.
Dr. Priya Anand, a behavioral psychologist not currently being paid by anyone involved, explained that parasocial relationships with podcast hosts can create what she calls ‘borrowed conviction syndrome.’ “People mistake the confidence in someone’s voice for the validity of what they’re saying,” she said. “Mr. Kowalczyk didn’t develop new beliefs so much as rent them, biweekly, at a $7.99 Patreon tier.”
As of press time, Kowalczyk had reportedly begun telling neighbors he was ‘stepping away from toxic positivity’ to launch his own podcast, tentatively titled ‘Unfiltered With Dale,’ which friends describe as ‘exactly the same thing but worse and in his garage.’
