Dale Frobisher, 34, announced Tuesday that he has finally reached a state of complete physical, mental, and spiritual transcendence after methodically working his way through 47 distinct brands of mushroom-infused wellness beverages over the past eight months, spending an estimated $2,340 in the process.
Frobisher’s journey began last spring with a basic reishi tonic purchased at a farmers market, but quickly spiraled into what he describes as ‘a calling.’ His refrigerator, once home to condiments and leftovers, now houses a color-coded shelving system organizing beverages by fungal compound, harvest region, and ‘vibrational frequency,’ a metric Frobisher invented himself using a pendulum and a spreadsheet.
‘I used to think I just had generalized anxiety and a mild vitamin D deficiency,’ Frobisher explained while sipping a $14 lion’s mane cold brew. ‘Now I realize I was simply spiritually parched. The chaga water opened something in me. The turkey tail sealed it shut again in a good way. It’s hard to explain unless you’ve spent $86 on a single bottle of cordyceps elixir.’
Dr. Marlene Ashcroft, a wellness industry analyst at the Fictional Institute for Beverage Studies, says Frobisher’s experience is increasingly common among consumers seeking meaning through subscription boxes. ‘What we’re seeing is a generation that has replaced organized religion with organized refrigeration,’ Ashcroft said. ‘People aren’t just buying mushroom water. They’re buying the belief that hydration can fix a life that mostly just needs more sleep and fewer browser tabs.’
Frobisher says his next goal is to try all 47 beverages simultaneously in a single ‘mega-shroom flush,’ a ritual he plans to livestream from his bathroom, which he has recently rebranded as a ‘wellness sanctuary.’
