Local Man’s ‘Quick Weekend Project’ Enters Its Fourth Fiscal Quarter

What began as a simple plan to replace a leaky bathroom faucet has ballooned into an eleven-month odyssey that neighbors are now referring to as ‘The Situation,’ according to sources close to homeowner Gary Thibodeau, 47, who reportedly told his wife in January that he’d ‘have it wrapped up by Sunday.’

The project, which started with a single trip to the hardware store for a washer, has since expanded to include a fully gutted bathroom, a load-bearing wall that Thibodeau describes as ‘probably fine,’ and a tarp-covered hole in the ceiling that has developed its own microclimate. Thibodeau’s wife, Denise, said she has stopped asking for updates and instead tracks progress by monitoring how many YouTube tutorials are open on the shared family laptop at any given time. ‘We’re at fourteen tabs,’ she said. ‘Fourteen is not a good number.’

Home improvement specialist and part-time therapist Dale Rourke, who was called in for a consultation in March and never left, said Thibodeau’s situation is disturbingly common. ‘You start with a faucet, then you notice the tile is dated, then you notice the subfloor is rotted, then you’re standing in your own basement at 2 a.m. researching load calculations you don’t understand, wondering if this is what your father felt like,’ Rourke explained. ‘It’s less a renovation at this point than a spiritual crisis with plumbing.’

As of press time, the original faucet issue remains unresolved, as Thibodeau has not used that bathroom since April, when he removed the toilet ‘to get a better look at the flooring situation.’ The family currently showers at a nearby gym, where Thibodeau has reportedly begun eyeing the locker room tile with what Denise describes as ‘that look.’
