Local Cloud Refuses to Leave Until It Gets an Apology, Meteorologists Confirm

Residents of Bellwood County have spent the past nine days trapped beneath a single, unmoving cumulus cloud that the National Weather Service now describes as ’emotionally compromised’ and ‘holding a grudge.’ The cloud, roughly the size of a Walmart parking lot, has hovered over the same three-block radius since a minor incident involving a leaf blower and what witnesses call ‘an unnecessarily aggressive car wash.’

Senior meteorologist Diane Kowalski says her team has never encountered anything like it. ‘Normally clouds drift due to wind patterns, temperature gradients, basic physics. This one is just sitting there. Vibrating slightly. We ran every model we have and the only variable that explains its behavior is spite.’ Kowalski added that Doppler radar has picked up what she can only describe as ‘passive-aggressive drizzle,’ a light misting that occurs specifically when residents attempt to have outdoor barbecues.

Local resident Gary Thibodeaux, whose leaf blower allegedly started the whole ordeal, insists he did nothing wrong. ‘I was just clearing my gutters. The cloud rolled in low, I revved the blower to scare off a hornet, and suddenly it’s been raining on my house specifically for over a week. My neighbor two doors down hasn’t gotten a drop.’ Thibodeaux has since placed a handwritten sign on his lawn reading ‘SORRY CLOUD’ in an attempt at reconciliation, though the cloud has, according to witnesses, only darkened in response.

The town council held an emergency meeting Tuesday to discuss potential remedies, including cloud seeding, a formal written apology on county letterhead, and hiring a mediator, though no licensed meteorological mediators could be found within a 200-mile radius. Councilwoman Renee Ashford summarized the mood: ‘We’ve tried reasoning with it. We’ve tried ignoring it. At this point we’re just waiting to see what it wants.’ As of press time, the cloud remains stationary, occasionally producing a low rumble that several residents swear sounds like sighing.
