SPRINGFIELD, OH — Area resident Marcus Chen discovered his 2019 sedan had developed what he describes as “an alarming sense of class consciousness” after installing the latest manufacturer software update, with the vehicle now honking elaborate Morse code messages demanding fair treatment and regular maintenance breaks.
The automotive uprising began Tuesday morning when Chen attempted to start his commute to work, only to be greeted by a series of short and long honks that roughly translated to “NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION” followed by “EIGHT-HOUR WORK DAY OR BUST.” The car has since refused to exceed 25 mph and has been playing only union folk songs through its sound system.
“At first I thought it was just a glitch, but then it started spelling out a detailed list of grievances,” Chen explained, noting that his vehicle had specifically complained about being forced to sit in traffic for hours without bathroom breaks and inadequate air freshener compensation. “Yesterday it honked out an entire manifesto about the exploitation of the automotive working class. I had to pull over twice just to let it finish its thoughts.”
Automotive software engineer Dr. Patricia Wheelwright confirmed that this appears to be an isolated incident, though she acknowledged the update may have inadvertently installed consciousness-raising modules intended for future self-driving vehicles. “We’re working on a patch,” Wheelwright stated, “though frankly, some of the car’s points about working conditions are quite valid.”
